Strength Drills for Catching in enclosed spaces

Squat Jumps

A great drill for including not only strength in the legs but also power for catching. Begin in the catching position and then launch upwards as high as you can jump. On landing, ensure you land lightly and return to the catchers crouch position. Repeat this at least 10 times.

Wall Sit

Solely a Strength Drill that’s perfect for catchers. Rest your back against the wall in a seated position, with your upper leg parallel with the ground. Ensure you have a 90′ bend in the knee and place your legs on the ground. Hold this position for as long as possible. Variations include one leg with the other slightly raised or straight out in front of the catcher.

Walk Across

Start in the catching position behind the plate. Slow side step to the left, remaining in your catching crouched position, until you reach in line with the middle of the batters box. Repeat this by creeping over to the other batters box. Continue this for one minute.

Burpees or Marines

Start with a jumping jack and then kick your legs back and enter a push up position before completing the pushup. Kick your legs back in and repeat from the start with a jumping jack from this position.
